Content Creator (New Jersey)
In-Person, New Jersey
Join our content roster as an independent contractor shooting photo and video on-site at client businesses across New Jersey. Flexible, project-based shoot days that become the ads and social content our clients run on.
Applying includes a short timed skills assessment. Applications without a completed assessment aren't considered.
AB Marketing Group is a growing digital marketing agency serving local businesses across Northern New Jersey, NYC, and the DMV. We create scroll-stopping content for restaurants, medical spas, home services, retail brands, professional services, and more. Our mission: help local businesses tell their stories through authentic, high-quality photo and video content. We're building a reliable roster of talented content creators who can capture the moments that matter, whether it's a chef plating a dish, a roofing crew mid-install, a before-and-after transformation, or a business owner's story.
Why This Role Matters
This is flexible, project-based contractor work, not a rigid 9-to-5. Some weeks you'll have multiple shoots, other weeks might be quieter, and for the right person the volume grows toward full-time. You'll be the eyes of the brand on every shoot: show up prepared, execute the shot list professionally, deliver great footage, and make the client feel confident in their investment. What you capture becomes the paid ads and organic social their real budgets run on.
What You'll Do
- ✓
Review shot lists and creative briefs before every shoot (provided 24-48 hours in advance), pack your kit, confirm logistics, and arrive 15-30 minutes early to set up.
- ✓
Capture professional photo and video on-site at client businesses across New Jersey using your own equipment and/or ABMG gear, executing shot lists efficiently (typically 2-6 hour shoots).
- ✓
Shoot vertical-first for ads and reels, plus the wides, details, and stills websites and landing pages need.
- ✓
Apply real technical craft in the field: composition, lighting, focus, exposure, and clean audio in working businesses, not studios.
- ✓
Work independently with minimal hand-holding and keep a professional demeanor with clients. You're the ABMG person in the room.
- ✓
Upload all raw footage to our cloud storage the same day, labeled and organized for our remote editing team, and return any borrowed gear.
- ✓
Leave the rest to us: editing, client strategy, and pricing conversations are handled by our editing team and project management, never by the shooter on-site.
What You'll Bring
Must-Haves
- ✓
A portfolio showing consistent professional quality (10-15 projects demonstrating variety). We watch everything you send.
- ✓
1-3+ years of professional shooting experience: client work, not just personal projects.
- ✓

- ✓
Technical proficiency: manual exposure, focus techniques, basic lighting, and composition fundamentals.

Based in or near New Jersey with reliable transportation. Client shoots are on location, typically within a 30-60 minute radius.
- ✓
Professional reliability: show up on time (early), communicate proactively, deliver footage same day.
- ✓
Weekday availability (most shoots run 9am-5pm, with occasional evenings or weekends).

What Success Looks Like
First 30 Days
- ✓Show up on time (early) with all necessary equipment for your first projects.
- ✓Complete 95%+ of shot list requirements on every shoot.
- ✓Deliver clean, usable footage with minimal technical issues.
- ✓Professional interaction with clients from the first minute on site.
First 90 Days
- ✓Consistent quality and reliability across every project.
- ✓Efficient execution: a 4-hour shoot takes 4 hours, not 6.
- ✓Proactive communication whenever issues come up. Silence doesn't solve anything.
- ✓Creative additions beyond the shot list that give the editors options, and a place as a go-to shooter we assign first.
What Makes You Successful Here
- ✓
You treat this like a real job: no late arrivals without communication, no ghosting on scheduled shoots, no missed deadlines without a proactive heads-up.
- ✓
You're a student of the craft: always learning, always improving.
- ✓
Quality without excuses: professional output every time.
- ✓
You shoot for the edit and the ad, not the showreel.
- ✓
You treat client sites with respect: these are working businesses, not sets.
